Background and aims The focus group on OA-Künste is a network with a mailing list moderated since 2019 by Anika Wilde (Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch) and Friederike Kramer (Universität der Künste Berlin). It is open to all artistic institutions and universities. The target group: libraries as a service institution that can promote and help to establish Open Access structures at various levels. The aim is to provide a forum for exchange and discussion. Furthermore, the members of the focus group share materials and information amongst each other in order to strengthen Open Access in the arts. Previous Events Publikation und Dokumentation non-textueller Materialien am Beispiel des Artistic Research Catalogue Künstlerische Forschung ist ein vielfältiges, interdisziplinäres und oft mit nicht-textlichen Ergebnissen einhergehendes Forschungsgebiet, das in herkömmlichen Repositorien nur schwer zugänglich gemacht werden kann. Der Artistic Research Catalogue der Society for Artistic Research ist eine Open-Access-Datenbank für genau diese Arbeiten und bietet Lösungen für Text, Bild, Audio und Video. Die Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Bremen fördert den RC aus Open-Access-Mitteln und bietet so der Hochschule für Künste Bremen eine Plattform für künstlerische Forschung und ihre Daten. Jan Charzinski und Kathrin Gollwitzer-Oh stellen in ihrem Vortrag am 19. November 2025 (15:00-16:00 Uhr) den RC vor und zeigen anhand von Beispielen die Veröffentlichung non-textueller Materialien. Background Concerning the open access transformation, academic libraries and institutions in Germany are faced with the challenge of implementing information budgets. The goal is an institution-wide and transparent publication and cost monitoring, e.g. the systematic recording and evaluation of an institution's publication volume as well as the centrally and decentrally incurred costs for publishing and literature supply. Tools and processes must be adapted and developed in close collaboration with many other organisational units, e.g. budget and third-party funding departments and controlling. There have been calls for transparent cost and publication monitoring in the context of the open access transformation for several years. With the DFG funding programme "Open Access Publication Costs" launched in 2021 and the recommendations of the German Council of Science and Humanities (Wissenschaftsrat) on the transformation of scientific publishing to open access published in 2022, the topic is getting more important to libraries and science policy. In 2022 five workshops were offered by open-access.network under the title "Budget development in the context of the OA transformation". During the Open Access Days 2022 in Bern, a hands-on workshop was held on the topic of information budgets. Two current DFG projects also address the topic: OpenCost has been working on a standardised metadata scheme for (OA) publication costs, while Transform2Open will be dedicated to the conceptual issues of cost monitoring. Aims and objectives The focus group fosters as a practical exchange of experiences between academic libraries that are facing the challenge of information budgeting and/or have already taken the first steps towards an own information budget. Together we want to identify similar needs and requirements and discuss necessary fields of action. The group plans concrete measures and organises their implementation. Therefore, active participation of the individual members of the group is very important. Among other things, the following aspects are addressed: Agreement on the elements of information budgets and the standardisation of their presentation Summarising the necessary steps to introduce an information budget (target group: library and institution managers) Sharing best practices Organisational information If you are interested in the work of the focus group, you are welcome to register for the mailing list . A sub-project of the BMBF-funded project is focussing on new approaches to open access financing and ways for a sustainable Open Access transformation. The BMBF-funded project focusses on further developments of budgets, criteria and competences at scientific institutions relating to the financial dimensions of the Open Access transformation. Background The implementation of Open Access in the field of book publications has gained momentum in recent years. Some universities and scientific institutions have already established support measures for Open Access books. There are a number of topics where a dialogue at the interface between the publishing world and the needs of libraries and researchers can be deepened. Cooperation with publishers is particularly important in the humanities and social sciences. Aims The focus group "Open Access Books" builds on the existing network of people in Berlin who are involved in the field of Open Access and who work at university libraries as well as for small and medium-sized publishers. The group continues the exchange started at the end of 2019 in the context of the 2nd Berlin Round Table. The focus will be on topics such as publishing agreements and their conformity with OA principles (open licensing, granting of rights of use, etc.). The topic around OA books also moves other networks, so the focus group is open to other people who are willing to participate. The exchange with other initiatives such as ENABLE! Community , Allianz-AG Scientific Publication System is being taken into consideration. Further meetings of the focus group are currently being planned. Diese Fokusgruppe hat ihre Arbeit Ende Dezember 2023 eingestellt. Many scientists and scholars still have questions about how to deal with Open Access . Legal uncertainties often arise, but researchers are also unsure about practical issues such as choosing a suitable journal . This is where institutional helpdesks come in. These offer low-threshold advisory services in all matters relating to OA. The focus group aimed to bring together helpdesk advisors for a collaborative exchange of experiences on the following topics, among others: What forms of helpdesk consulting exist? Which offers are accepted by the researchers and how? Which further offers are necessary? How does helpdesk consulting work well (best practices)? What are the problems and how can they be solved? In order to boost open access for monographs and edited volumes , there are now more and more open access monograph funds that make landmark decisions for the open access book culture. This funding brings about many questions and challenges for all involved. The focus group on open access monograph funds promotes the exchange of information and the discussion of funding conditions and funding amounts provided by existing monograph funds. It aims to facilitate communication with publishers and authors through agreed and generally accepted funding criteria, cost ceilings and standards. The focus group builds on the OA monograph funder information exchange workshops organised by the Leibniz Publication Fund for OA Monographs in December 2019 and January 2021. Self-archiving ( green open access ) continues to play a significant role in the transformation of the scholarly publication system to open access . Self-archiving in repositories is sometimes the preferred or even the only available open access strategy. Scholarly journals are not the predominant publication medium in all disciplines . Especially in the case of edited volumes and conference proceedings, a direct gold or diamond open access option via the publisher is still frequently lacking. In addition, there are cases where gold open access fees are not covered by institutional funds or transformative agreements . Green open access also plays an important strategic role, for example in securing archival access to back issues of former subscription journals that have “flipped” to open access. Tools like Unpaywall, and services like DeepGreen have successfully contributed to making green open access more convenient for publishers and readers. Users, on the other hand, often perceive the process of self-archiving to be laborious; they also face technical and legal uncertainties. In order to overcome these obstacles, many academic libraries offer services such as legal checks, publisher enquiries or full-text uploads to their institutional or disciplinary repositories. These services are also known as self-archiving services. As the German word for “self-archiving is Zweitveröffentlichung, self-archiving services are often referred to in German as “ZVS”, the abbreviation of Zweitveröffentlichungsservices . These services are resource-intensive for providers, and frequently raise practical and legal issues. In view of these challenges at the working level, the Focus Group on Self-Archiving aims to provide a space for all providers of and parties interested in ZVS to, among other things, exchange views on ZVS-related issues and central topics; reflect on and further develop their own approaches in the context of this exchange; pool resources so that common interests can be advanced, for example with regard to publishers without self-archiving policies; use the insights gained into the workflows of other institutions to make their own work practices more effective; exchange views on legal issues; build and maintain a common knowledge base of generic questions, answers and information; explore and exploit opportunities for cooperation. Background and aims Subject Repositories offer robust publication infrastructures and various associated services for specific subject communities. One of their central goals is to promote Open Access within these communities. This digital focus group transfers the existing networking meeting of "Subject Repositories" into a new framework. Operators of Subject Repositories meet regularly, both virtually and in person, to exchange information on current developments, support each other and plan joint projects. Sie agieren als wichtige Anlaufstellen und Multiplikatoren für außeruniversitäre Kultureinrichtungen und landeskundlich Publizierende. Ziel der Fokusgruppe Die Fokusgruppe bringt Mitarbeitende aus Landes- und Regionalbibliotheken zusammen, um sich praxisnah zu Fragen rund um Open Access im Kontext landesbibliothekarischer Arbeit auszutauschen. Im Mittelpunkt stehen gemeinsame Erfahrungen, Herausforderungen und Lösungsansätze aus dem Arbeitsalltag. Hintergrund Das Hosting von Open-Access-Zeitschriften ist ein wichtiger Bestandteil institutioneller Publikationsdienstleistungen. Viele Hostinganbieter an deutschsprachigen Hochschuleinrichtung nutzen dabei die weltweit am meisten verbreitete offene Publikationssoftware Open Journal Systems (OJS) von Public Knowledge Project (PKP). Nachdem das projektbasierte Netzwerk OJS-DE.net seine Aktivitäten eingestellt hat, wurde der Bedarf eines neuen Austauschformates deutlich. Die Fokusgruppe OJS-Hosting ist aus dem Workshop “Zentrale Infrastrukturen für das Journal-Hosting mit OJS – Wie geht es? Was braucht es?" im Rahmen der Open-Access-Tage 2024 in Köln hervorgegangen.
