Wiley and Projekt DEAL extend open access agreement

Veröffentlicht am

Multinational academic publisher Wiley is extending its open access agreement with Projekt DEAL in Germany for at least another year. The agreement between Wiley and Projekt DEAL has been running since 2019. The publish-and-read agreement gives the more than 900 academic institutions in Germany participating in Projekt DEAL the opportunity to access all of Wiley's academic journals. In addition, researchers at these institutions can publish articles in open access in Wiley journals.

According to a white paper recently published by Wiley, the agreement has led to a significant increase in the volume and percentage of scientific open access publications in Germany: In 2020, 93 percent of authors from German institutions publishing in Wiley's hybrid journal portfolio chose to publish OA. The number of articles published in gold OA journals increased by 58 percent from 2018 to 2020; together with OA publication in hybrid journals, this results in a total number of more than 10,000 OA articles from Germany in 2020.

Wiley has already negotiated more than 25 OA agreements worldwide. Recently, Wiley concluded an agreement with the Israeli consortium MALMAD – the Inter-University Center for Digital Information Services – (open-access.network reported). Agreements in Korea, Slovenia and most recently with the Danish Royal Library followed in early 2022.
