Support for the Open Library Media Science

The Bielefeld-based transcript Verlag, the Lower Saxony State and University Library (SUB) Göttingen and the Fachinformationsdienst (FID) für Kommunikations-,
Media and Film Studies Leipzig (adlr.link) are calling for renewed support for the Open Library Medienwissenschaft (OL MeWi). Following the successful establishment of the funding consortium at the end of 2021 (open-access.network reported), all libraries specializing in media, communication, and film studies are now invited to confirm their participation in the consortium by September 30, 2022, or to register anew. Libraries can sign up to participate in the Open Access Consortium Open Library Media Studies at the following email address: oa-transformation@sub.uni-goettingen.de

About the Open Library Media Science consortium model.

Libraries participate in the library consortium as an "open library community" in a crowdfunding effort, enabling the publication of transcript content in open access instead of purchasing e-books or usage licenses individually. The costs of the consortium model are thus significantly lower for the participating libraries than for individual title funding - with a larger number of participants, the costs per library are reduced even further. It relieves the burden on institutions with high publication rates, enables authors to publish in open access independently of their institution's funding structures, and opens up unrestricted access to the content for the entire scientific community. Every year, 13 titles are published in OL MeWi. Starting in 2023, they will be honored, reviewed, and selected by a panel of experts. To continue the consortium, a minimum quorum of 40 full sponsorships is again required.
