Academic libraries play a key role in open science and society: they provide research literature and data as well as modern services and tools. In order to make the social relevance of libraries and their tasks – such as the implementation of open access – visible, the German Library Association (Deutscher Bibliotheksverband, DBV), together with many German academic libraries and the support of personalities from science and society, has launched the "Weiter wissen" campaign ("Know further", in German). According to the DBV, the aim of the campaign is to emphasise to decision-makers, the scientific community and funders the essential and diverse services provided by libraries as a prerequisite for high-quality research and science.
Research accessible to all
The campaign focuses on the core tasks of libraries: open access, research data management, cultural heritage, digital long-term archiving and research and development. The terms are explained in catchy headlines: "Research accessible to all. With us." Print and digital campaign materials are also available for download on the DBV website.
