EU OpenAIRE project launched

Veröffentlicht am

The EU pilot project OpenAIRE (Open Access Infrastructure for Research in Europe) was launched today at the University of Ghent. The infrastructure gives researchers, businesses and citizens free and open access to EU-funded research papers. OpenAIRE will provide a network of open archives giving free online access to knowledge produced by scientists who have received grants from the Seventh Framework Programme (RP7) and the European Research Council (ERC) - especially in the fields of health, energy, the environment, information and communication technology, research infrastructures, the social sciences, and the humanities. This is an important step toward ensuring unrestricted, open access to scientific papers that would, for example, enable patients with rare diseases to read up on the latest medical research or allow scientists real-time access to the most recent research in their field. The development of research infrastructures and e-infrastructures, including those for the results of scientific research, with a view to increasing Europe's competitiveness, is a priority of both the Digital Agenda for Europe and the Innovation Union initiative.
