DIAMAS study on diamond open access in Europe

The DIAMAS project has published the results of the European Landscape of Institutional Publishing study. The study, which was conducted from March to May 2023, maps the European institutional publishing landscape. The findings are intended to support the expansion of diamond open access in order to improve equal access to scientific information. 685 institutional publishers and service providers took part in the survey.

'Diamondising' the publication landscape

According to the authors of the study, the results show how institutional publishers work, to what extent and in what way they operate, how finances and funding are managed, how open science practices are handled and what challenges they face. The DIAMAS project plans to use the information collected and analysed to develop a self-assessment tool for institutional publishers and service providers within the framework of the Extensible Quality Standard for Institutional Publishing (EQSIP) as a next step. In addition, the survey results will serve as a basis for the formulation of policy and strategy recommendations for research organisations, funders and regional, national and international policy makers, among others, in order to 'diamondise' the publishing landscape.
