Civil rights activists, taxpayers' alliances and library associations are protesting against attempts by Democrat Congressman John Conyers to overturn a mandate with respect to open access to publicly-funded research results. At the beginning of February, Conyers introduced a Bill entitled "Fair Copyright in Research Works Act" which aims to do away with the mandate whereby researchers who receive funding from the National Institutes of Health must make their research results openly accessible no later than 12 months after publication.
