In response to a joint statement issued by a number of publishers and authors accusing the Alliance of the German Science Organisations of propagating interference in authors' freedom to publish, members of the Alliance have issued a joint statement entitled Open access and copyrights: no attack on freedom of publication. The Coalition for Action "Copyright for Education and Research" has also issued a statement in this regard. It is entitled What is scientific and publishing freedom worth to us? If we forfeit the principle that knowledge entails social obligations, we forfeit our future.
