The Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Science, and Equality of the German Federal State of Schleswig-Holstein presented its Open Access Strategy on 18.11.2014. The strategy paper was drawn up in collaboration with scientists, state politicians of all parliamentary parties, higher education institutions, and the German National Library of Economics in Kiel. In the words of Science Minister Kristin Alheit: "Modern research is based on extensive scientific dialogue and progress made by improving on earlier work. Therefore, we must use free access to scientific publications as an opportunity and a catalyst for research. To be internationally competitive one must adapt one's pace and communication channels to current possibilities. Our Open Access strategy sets the course for Schleswig-Holstein's success in this regard.
