The OpenAIRE (Open Access Infrastructure for Research in Europe) project has published the OpenAIRE Guidelines 1.0. OpenAIRE supports scholars, scientists and repository operators in implementing the requirements of the European Commission's Open Access pilot and the European Research Council's Guidelines for Open Access. The Commission's Open Access pilot requires scholars and scientists to deposit articles resulting from research funded by the EU's Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7) in a suitable institutional or subject-based repository and to ensure that they are made openly accessible within six months of publication. In order to support for the Commission's Open Access pilot, an infrastructure and a European Helpdesk System is being built within the framework of the OpenAIRE project. To render it as easy as possible for researchers to make their work openly accessible in this context, repositories are invited to become part of the OpenAIRE infrastructure. The OpenAIRE Guidelines provide information on the technical requirements in this regard. They also explain how repository managers can define and implement their local data management in compliance with the European Commission's Open Access requirements.
Support on the part of the developers of repository platforms is very welcome. For example, a useful add-on for DSPACE that was developed by the University of Minho will be made available in December. We will be happy to provide repository operators in Germany with the best possible support in implementing these guidelines.
