Leipzig University adopts Open Access policy

Veröffentlicht am

The Senate of the University of Leipzig adopted an Open Access policy on 9 December. In the words of Professor Dr Matthias Schwarz, Vice-Rector for Research and Young Academics (our translation): "Strengthening open access is a social policy imperative. We have a clear mandate to handle taxpayers' money responsibly and to understand knowledge transfer in a broad sense. One important argument in favour of open access is that it enables society to benefit widely from the money that it puts into scientific institutions. [...] The larger the circle of scientists who can access information free of charge and without barriers, the more science as a whole benefits."
