Guides on scholar-led publishing

Veröffentlicht am

The BMBF-funded project Scholar-led Plus at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society has published the collection of guidelines "Wissenschaftsgeleitetes Publizieren. Sechs Handreichungen mit Perspektiven und Praxistipps". More than 50 experts in the field of open access publication from Germany, Austria and Switzerland collaborated as authors.

In the course of the open access transformation, scholar-led journals are confronted with numerous challenges. In addition to financial and infrastructural support, there is a need for guidelines that offer capacity building in order to close knowledge gaps in the field of scientific publishing. The handouts guide OA journals and publishing initiatives in a needs-oriented manner and support the further development, professionalization and sustainability of the publication activities.

A set of six parts

The six guides provide knowledge about technical processes, tools and infrastructures and link this with copyright aspects and information on data privacy. Furthermore, recommendations for the optimization of workflows are given, whereby the area of scientific communication and the distribution of content are considered separately. Cost structures and possibilities of funding and financing are also addressed and strategies of good governance for journals are described.
