In a new handout, the DFG-funded Transform2Open project provides practical recommendations on how scientific institutions can organise their open access workflows sustainably and efficiently. The aim is to strategically improve processes along the entire life cycle of open access publications – from funding and contract management to publication in repositories.
Practical recommendations for libraries and publication services
The recommendations are primarily aimed at employees in academic libraries and publication services at universities and non-university research institutions in Germany. It is based on a literature review and interviews with experts and takes into account current requirements, for example from the DFG funding programme Open Access Publication Funding.
Focus on contracts, models and repositories
Among other things, it deals with publish-and-read contracts, diamond and subscribe-to-open models, the management of publication funds and reporting obligations to funders. The recommendations offer guidance for optimising existing workflows – beyond individual tools or measures.
