The Enter Award will be presented for the first time in July 2024. It is organised by the think tank iRights.Lab and is the first prize for open access. It is intended to recognise the commitment to making research freely accessible. It also aims to promote an open and collaborative culture of education, research and learning in Germany. Interested parties and organisations residing or based in Germany can apply until 30 April 2024 or nominate candidates by 22 April. The prize is endowed with 1,000 euros per category.
Five categories for commitment to a strong open access culture
The Enter Award will be presented in five different categories:
- Infrastructure: This category is intended to recognise work for the establishment of an open access infrastructure such as servers, effective administration and services for the use and discoverability of scientific information. It is aimed at repositories, archives and other infrastructure providers, among others.
- Skills transfer: Recognises people and organisations that support others in their projects and disseminate knowledge about open access, such as advice centres.
- Young hopeful: This category recognises young researchers who have embraced the basic idea of open access from the outset and whose commitment inspires others at the beginning of their academic careers.
- Pioneering achievement: This category is aimed at academics, researchers and activists who conduct research on open access, who disseminate the basic idea of free knowledge in various formats or who break new ground in their organisation.
- Cooperation: This is intended to recognise cooperation between partners from different disciplines and areas of activity that promote the idea of open access across borders. Applications from international partnerships are very welcome in this category.
The award winners in the various categories are selected in a multi-stage process involving the organisers and a jury of open access professionals and enthusiasts.
