Effective management, targeted control, access to funding

Veröffentlicht am

Open access is fundamentally changing the financing structures of academic publishing. It is becoming increasingly important for universities and scientific institutions to systematically record and strategically manage their publication costs. The new handout (in German) from the DFG-funded Transform2Open project offers practical recommendations for setting up an institutional publication cost monitoring system and introducing an information budget. The publication is aimed at senior staff and shows how transparency can be created regarding publication expenditure – a prerequisite for effective management, targeted control and access to research funding.

Information budget: a central instrument

The information budget pools all expenditure and funding sources relating to scientific information and creates a sound basis for strategic decisions. The handout offers concrete suggestions for organisational processes, data management and reporting. It thus strengthens the ability of scientific institutions to act in the open access transition. A checklist helps with implementation.
