On 15 February, the DEAL Consortium launched its new website deal-konsortium.de. The new website provides German scientific institutions, authors and interested members of the public with all the information they need about DEAL and is intended to help them make the best possible use of the extensive services provided by DEAL contracts. For the first time, the contents of the "Projekt DEAL" and "DEAL Operations" websites are now being made available on one website.
About the DEAL Project and DEAL Operations
The DEAL project aims to promote the transition to open access in the scholarly publishing system by concluding transformative open access agreements with major scholarly publishers. Among other things, this is intended to improve access to research literature that is not yet freely available and to contain the costs of scientific publishing. While DEAL agreements have already been signed with the scientific publishers Wiley since January 2019 and Springer Nature since January 2020, the DEAL consortium has not yet been able to reach a negotiated result with Elsevier. DEAL was initiated by the Alliance of Science Organisations in Germany. The DEAL consortium includes more than 500 universities and scientific institutions.
DEAL Operations is based in the Max Planck Digital Library (MPDL) Services gGmbH and is responsible for the operational implementation of the transformative agreements negotiated by the DEAL project. Recently, the 2022 Annual Review of Operations was published (in German): https://deal-konsortium.de/images/documents/20211208_DEAL_Operations_Jahresrckblick_2022.pdf
