The DEAL consortium and the scientific publishing group Springer Nature signed a new open access agreement on 24 November 2023, as announced on 1 December. The publish-and-read agreement enables researchers at DEAL institutions to publish in the publishing group's hybrid and open access journals. For the time being, publications in Nature's hybrid journals are excluded. At the same time, the participating institutions will receive reading rights for all articles from the publishing group that have been published by Springer, Palgrave and Adis. The new contract will run for five years from 2024. According to the magazine Forschung & Lehre, the contracting parties have agreed on a publish-and-read fee of 2,600 euros per publication – 150 euros less than in the previous agreement from 2020.
