De Gruyter concludes Open Access transformation agreement with 60 institutions in Germany

De Gruyter and more than 60 universities, research institutes and libraries in Germany have negotiated an Open Access Transformation Agreement that focuses on disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. The agreement includes a read-and-publish agreement that enables all researchers at the participating institutions to publish OA in more than 100 journals in the humanities and social sciences. Authors do not have to pay any publication fees (APCs) for their publications. Further institutions can join the agreement.

In addition, a further eleven periodicals are to be completely converted to Open Access by means of the Subscribe-To-Open model. These include the journals LinguisticsFrühmittelalterliche Studien and Jahrbuch für Wirtschaftsgeschichte.

In a press release, De Gruyter expresses the wish to be able to negotiate a multi-year transformation contract with the parties involved following the one-year pilot phase.
