The German Research Foundation (DFG) has issued a press release announcing that it is to fund the purchase of new national licences, thereby making databases, journal archives and e-book collections accessible free of charge:
"New treasure troves for researchers: Whether they are searching for a forgotten expressionist drama, a leading article from the party organ Pravda, or a study published in a widely cited journal of endocrinology, scholars and scientists at German universities and research institutions will in future be able to have access to an even more multifaceted supply of digital information. National licences will enable free access to a further 21 large databases, journal archives and e-book collections. In accordance with a resolution adopted by its Joint Committee, the German Research Foundation (DFG) will provide funding of over 5.4 million euros for the acquisition of the Germany-wide data rights.
The new research resources, which will be available in spring 2011, include extensive full-text databases, which are of great value to interdisciplinary research."
