Open Access Tage 2023: Videos, Slides and Gleanings
The conference Open Access Tage [Open Access Days] (#OAT23) took place in Berlin at the end of September 2023. Thus, the 20th anniversary of the Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities was also celebrated fittingly and given due recognition in the German capital. Anyone who would like to look back and reflect on the OAT23 or to catch up on one or other of the presentations, now has a choice of over 30 videos.
Since the Berlin Declaration, open access has established itself as a standard and a fundamental characteristic of scientific work. The Open Access Tage, the annual conference for open access and open research in the German-speaking area, took the anniversary as an opportunity to jointly reflect on the road travelled and to look to the future under the motto "Shaping visions".
The pleasant late summer weather was kind to the 450 participants who came together for numerous presentations and workshops, three keynotes, a podium discussion, and a poster session. They also gathered in other, relaxed settings, for example evening events, or got together for a delicious ice cream.
32 #OAT23 paper presentations available online as freely licensed videos
At such a big conference as the Open Access Tage, it is easy to miss presentations. A total of 32 paper presentations and a podium discussion are now available on video on the AV-Portal of the German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB). They contain German and English subtitles and the presentation slides. The recordings of the podium discussion on DEAL also include questions from the audience.
The presentations are available under the DOI https://doi.org/10.5446/s_1673 on the TIB AV-Portal and can also be downloaded from there. All videos are available for diverse forms of reuse under the free licence CC BY 3.0.
Presentation slides, posters, and other gleanings from the #OAT23
Besides the paper presentations themselves, the slides of all 32 presentations as well as the 18 posters presented are available on Zenodo. The files are stored in this Zenodo group and can be reused without any problems thanks to the open licence.
In addition, some short post-conference reports have been published. They include a post-conference report in campus.leben, Freie Universität Berlin's (FU) online magazine; an anniversary report on the Berlin Declaration in the Berliner Tagesspiegel; and a reflective article on the website of the Brandenburg Networking and Competence Centre for Open Access.
The #OAT23 conference was hosted jointly by a total of 14 institutions, namely the Berlin universities and higher education institutions and the university hospital Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. It took place from 27–29 September 2023 at the Freie Universität Berlin and was coordinated by the Open-Access-Büro Berlin.
The next Open Access Days (#OAT24) will take place from 10–12 September 2024 in Cologne. A short teaser can be found here.
