How Are Open Access Articles Funded?

Veröffentlicht am

Open Access is not free to produce. The instructional video Funding Open Access Articles — What Are the Options? explains how these costs can be covered: Free access to scientific findings is made possible by various stakeholders in the academic system. The video is available in German and English on the AV-Portal of the Technical Information Library (TIB).

Insights into Funding Models

The video focuses on so-called Article Processing Charges (APCs) and the various ways to cover these costs. Among other things, the video explains the role of institutional funding, central publication funds, transformation agreements between academic institutions and publishers, and funding from third-party donors. In addition, it presents alternative publication models that do not require authors to pay fees. The video was produced at the TIB as part of the open-access.network 3 collaborative project and funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR).
