Academic Senate of the University of California Passes Open Access Policy

Veröffentlicht am

On 24 July 2013, after a six-year process of deliberation, the Academic Senate of the University of California (UC), the largest and most influential public research university in the world, passed a far-reaching "green" Open Access Policy. On 1 November 2013, faculty on three UC campuses will begin depositing their research articles in the university's Open Access repository, eScholarship. It is hoped that by November 2014 research articles authored by faculty at all ten UC campuses - up to 40,000 publications a year - will be made freely available to the public via the repository. In the words of Chris Kelty, chair of the UC University Committee on Library and Scholarly Communication (UCOLASC), "This policy will cover more faculty and more research than ever before, and it sends a powerful message that faculty want open access and they want it on terms that benefit the public and the future of research."
