Online Workshop, 2nd November 2022

Open Access and share your knowledge! Publishing in African Studies (English only)

Whether it is a paper, a book or a dissertation - the possibilities for open access publishing are as broad as African Studies itself. The workshop aims to provide information on the possibilities of transferring one's own publications to open access and making them available online in a barrier-free, cost-free and legally secure manner.

Together we will look at different ways of open access publishing, highlighting the opportunities, but also the challenges of the publishing process. What challenges do authors face as they work towards publishing their research? What reservations do authors hold toward open access publishing and how can they be supported in the publishing process? What opportunities do open access publications offer?

Prof. Dr. Paul Klimpel (iRights.Law) will explain the rights of authors to transfer their publications to open access at a later date (Green Open Access). Practical tips for publishing and support will be discussed by Dr Tim Glawion (Africa Spectrum), Dr Jo Havemann and (AfricArXiv), Dr Sebastian Nordhoff (LangSciPress) and Dr Francois van Schalkwyk (African Minds). The event will also provide the opportunity for networking and exchange.

The online workshop "Open Access and share your knowledge! Publishing in African Studies" will take place on 2 November 2022 from 9:00 to 12:00 in English.
It is organised by the Open Access Office Berlin and the African Studies Library (Fachinformationsdienst African Studies, Goethe-Universtiy Library Frankfurt) as part of the BMBF-funded project open-access.network.
