Open Access Book Series Transformation Project for the Ancient Studies

The series „Millennium Studies“ has been published by De Gruyter since 2004 and currently comprises 86 volumes, covering all central fields of Ancient Studies. In its project TransMill the Bavarian State Library aims to make those volumes freely accessible to the public via Open Access as well as the upcoming issues of the next years 2021/22. In addition, a medium- and long-term funding concept for the gold Open Access publication of future issues of the series needs to be established, serving as a model for coming transformation projects. In cooperation with the publisher, the project will be accompanied by intensive public relations activities to raise interest in the Open Access concept amongst researchers in the field of Ancient Studies, and especially among editors of other academic book series. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and co-financed by the German Research Foundation (DFG) as part of 'Propylaeum - Specialized Information Service Classics'
