Open Access Book Series Transformation Project for Ancient Studies

The book series „Millennium-Studien“ comprises relevant monographs on all central fields of Ancient Studies. 88 volumes of the series were published by De Gruyter until 2020. Supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) the project TransMill made these volumes freely accessible to the public via transformation to Open Access. In addition, new releases of the years 2021/22 were published in gold Open Access. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF); the Open Access transformation of those volumes that were published before 2020 was partly financed by the German Research Foundation (DFG) via funds for the "Specialized Information Service for Classical Studies – Propylaeum".

To continue the Open Access publication of upcoming volumes in the years 2023-2025 the Bavarian State Library and De Gruyter have founded an Open Access consortium involving 36 libraries in the German-speaking area. Their commitment ensures the further publication of the series in gold Open Access without fees for authors.
