Open Access Structured Communication

The research project OPEN-ACCESS-Structured-Communication (OA-STRUKTKOMM) is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) at the HTWK Leipzig from February 15, 2021 to January 31, 2023. This will be carried out as a successor to the OPEN-ACCESS-Hochschulverlag (OA-HVerlag) project, which was successfully completed in March 2020.

The aim of the project is to develop the necessary tools and strategies for the sustainable, generally applicable state-of-the-art workflow for the production and dissemination of OA monographs, which has already been developed, and for its widespread introduction. In addition to knowledge transfer a XML-based communication structure is to be developed that makes data exchange between the systems involved in the workflow more robust and compatible. In addition to the development of a standardized communication structure, other individual technical tools are conceivable that make Open Access more attractive by simplifying its use. Furthermore, the publication server developed in the previous project is to be developed further as an "out-of-the-box" product and research is to be conducted into the possibilities and limitations offered by a largely automated typesetting process. The aim is to make the publication infrastructure for OA publications, which is currently very heterogeneous, more efficient and standardize it as far as possible.
