Data protection

Data protection is of interest, especially in the case of Open Access to data, or data sharing, but only if and when personal data are processed. Since 25 May 2018, data protection in Austria has been governed by the provisions of the DSGVO and the Austrian Data Protection Act (DSG) as amended by the Data Protection Adaptation Act 2018 and the Data Protection Deregulation Act 2018.
All data processing operations must comply with this legal situation. In some fields, e.g. medicine and psychology, data protection issues related to Open Access are of particular importance. Rules should be devised to enable anonymised raw data to be made openly accessible without infringing the rights of the patients.
